Our Mission
The purpose of our school is to prepare our students for productive, fulfilling lives in a democratic society. We believe that they will need the skills of literacy, numeracy, tolerance and adaptability to take their place in the future as citizens. Furthermore, they will need strength of character as they face difficult personal and ethical challenges; a respect for themselves and others; curiosity and confidence; imagination; good habits of body and mind. Our fondest hope is that their opportunities at PCS prepare them well in all of the academic, social, emotional, physical and artistic areas while allowing for a sensibly paced transition from childhood to adulthood.
Our size and offerings
We have a full day self contained kindergarten and multi-age & grade classrooms in grades one through eighth with approximately 80 students. Classrooms are grades 1&2, 3&4, 5&6 and 7&8. Our small size allows us to know all of our students well. Our class size averages 14 students. In addition to core subjects, we also offer art, physical education, music and health. We are one of the four schools in Union 93. More can be found out about those schools on our Area Schools link.
About our community
Penobscot is located on the mid coast of Maine in Hancock County. We are a community of approximately 800 residents. We have a general store, a full service Nursing Home, Volunteer Fire Department and many people who are committed to keeping Penobscot a wounderful place to live and enjoy life.
We encourage parents within the community who homeschool their children to communicate with us and combine many programs including educational trips, athletics, art, music and much more.
